Both hot and cold therapy are often recommended to help relieve an aching pain due to muscle or joint damage.
Cold treatment reduces inflammation by decreasing blood flow and should be applied within 48 hours after injury.
Heat therapy on the other hand promotes blood flow and helps muscles to relax. Using both therapy may help reduce exercise-induced muscle. But never use extreme heat and never put ice directly on skin.
